School Uniform Items Given Away to Local Families

Our Free School Uniform Giveaway has once again helped families prepare for the new school year, with 1,739 items of school uniform distributed across five participating Lighthouse Charity Shops throughout August.

The initiative was designed to help ease some of the financial pressure faced by parents and carers at what can be an expensive time of year, while ensuring children could access essential school uniform free of charge.

Good quality donated school uniform was collected and redistributed through the participating shops, giving families the opportunity to find the items they needed without adding to their household expenditure.

Supporting families and reducing waste

As well as providing practical support for families, the giveaway reflects our wider commitment to making good use of the resources donated to us.

By finding new homes for pre-loved school uniform that still has plenty of life left in it, we can help families while extending the life of clothing and reducing unnecessary waste.

The giveaway also provided another opportunity for our Lighthouse Charity Shops to work directly with the communities around them. Staff and volunteers were able to welcome families into the shops and provide practical support at a time when household budgets can be under additional pressure.

Thank you to Yappl

This year’s giveaway was once again supported by Yappl, who generously donated £500 worth of new school uniform alongside pre-loved uniform collected from their team.

Having supported the initiative previously, Yappl were keen to get involved again and their contribution added to the uniform already donated by individuals and communities.

Their support, alongside donations from members of the public and the work of our staff and volunteers, helped us make more uniform available to families throughout the giveaway.

Making donations go further

The School Uniform Giveaway demonstrates how donated clothing can make a difference in more than one way.

Passing on good quality uniform can help reduce costs for another family, ensure clothing is reused rather than wasted and provide children with the practical items they need for school.

We would like to thank everyone who donated school uniform, our staff and volunteers who helped organise and distribute it, Yappl for their continued support, and everyone who helped spread the word.

Together, 1,739 school uniform items found a new home this summer.
