Investing in the Next Generation
15 giant inflatable obstacles, 5K of bouncing, climbing, sliding and scrambling, and plenty of laughs along the way!
On Saturday 12 September, Team Valley CiDS headed to Bakewell Showground to take on the Inflatable 5K, raising money for our Turner Farm Big Build Project.
Our team of Valley CiDS staff, volunteers and friends arrived bright and early, ready for the challenge and easy to spot in their bright Valley CiDS team t-shirts.
There was time for some face-painting before everyone made their way to the start line. Then they were off!
Across the 5K course, the team faced 15 giant inflatable obstacles, involving plenty of climbing, bouncing, sliding and scrambling to contend with, and reach the finish line.
The weather threw a bit of everything at them too. There was some gorgeous sunshine mixed with a couple of showers, but nothing was going to dampen the team’s spirits.
Nerves at the start soon gave way to laughter as everyone tackled the obstacles together, cheering each other on and enjoying the experience. There were a few spectacular slides, some less-than-graceful landings and plenty of moments that had everyone laughing.
Most importantly, everyone crossed the finish line and collected their well-earned medals.
Taking on the challenge for Turner Farm
Behind all the fun was an important reason for taking part.
The team took on the Inflatable 5K to raise money for our Turner Farm ‘Big Build Project’, which will create a new purpose-built vocational learning centre at Turner Farm in Swanwick.
The new facility will enable us to expand the practical learning opportunities available to young people, helping them develop skills, build confidence and work towards qualifications and future opportunities.
