From September 2012 Valley CIDS became affiliated with ParentPlus© and are now able to offer parenting courses in schools and churches. The ParentPlus© course enables parents to think through the challenges of parenting in a relaxed and friendly way.

The underlying strategy of Parent Plus© is to build confident, secure and positive parent and child relationships. The ACE© strategy explored in the course, helps parents to consider practically, how to set routines and maintain boundaries and in doing so shape a child's behaviour and build confident, secure and positive relationships between parent and child.

The A.C.E strategy stands for A= Agree C= Communicate E= Encourage and Enforce.

Subjects covered include:

  • Routines: what do we want them to do?
  • Boundaries: what don’t we want them to do?
  • Choosing your battles: knowing when to say no!
  • Tips for healthy eating and sleeping
  • Help and advice for healthy use of computers, the internet and TV
  • Play and exercise: hints and tips
  • Targets: getting from where you are to where you want to be

School sessions are designed to be held on school premises normally during the school day. The introductory cost is £200 for a course of 4 sessions (4 x 90min sessions) and includes a folder for each attending parent.

The Parent Plus© website can be accessed on www.parentplus.co.uk
