The Vintage and Retro launch took place on Wednesday 16th October at the Lighthouse shop in Spring Gardens, Buxton. This is now the second specialised vintage and retro shop following the recent launch at Long Eaton Lighthouse shop.

The event was well attended by members of the public and representatives of Valley CIDS. The Rev Jonathan Brook, a Valley CIDS Trustee, blessed the shop and then cut the ribbon, with a suitably ancient pair of garden shears, to declare the shop officially open. The staff at the shop dressed accordingly in 50’s and 60’s clothing.

Kevin Blackwell, Head of Retail, thanked all the staff and volunteers at Buxton Lighthouse and the team at Long Eaton who helped to set up the shop and acknowledged all their hard work in making it such a success.

Kevin said, “I am amazed at how these events bring the community together. We had one customer, David who painstakingly spent hours hand-making paper chains out of Dandy and Beano comics. We also had one fantastic lady who works in Carphone Warehouse on Spring Gardens who volunteered to make cakes for the occasion. Not to mention Jasmine Edwards, Assistant Manager at Buxton Lighthouse who roped in her musician friends, James, Matt and Stephen to busk outside the shop. All in all, the day was a huge success and great fun.”

The day was fantastic !
I had been off a couple of days but knew all was in hand and what we had 'to do' as the lists had been prepared earlier.
Jasmine and I prepared the shop with new items of bric a brac and we changed the furniture slightly to accommodate the musicians who were going to play for us. Myself, my partner, Jasmine and her partner, Stephen and volunteers helped prepare the buffet food the evening before which we had all gone out and bought the day before. Everything was home made.
We borrowed bunting from the Lighthouse Charity Shop in Long Eaton and a very kind customer made us plenty of paper chains to hang from the ceiling out of old copies of the Beano and old music sheets. They looked great !
We all dressed up as you have seen (check out all of the photos on the Facebook page - and it was a super happy day with some real team spirit, which made me very proud.
The shop was busy with customers, passers-by just coming for a nosey and lots of well wishes.
It was lovely to meet the CEO of Valley CIDS, Dorothy and, following our recent trip to see the Youth Centre at Heanor,  it is fantastic to know that we are doing a really good job and are able to provide such a service to our young and vulnerable.
We had a raffle, fantastic music players who sat out in the cold and the rain and sang, and amazing food even down to crackling, which Laurie loved. We had the support and presence of Chris and Kevin, Dorothy and John who blessed our shop.
It was a super atmosphere and it was like Christmas.
