Youth Work
Based
at both Ripley and Heanor in Derbyshire the Blend Youth Projects were set up
after consultation with over 300 young people. The centres
provides a safe environment for young people to meet with a coffee
bar, games area and internet
access provision. The activities and programmes provided through
the Youth
Projects are based around four core youth work
curriculum areas:-
- Leisure and
Recreational Needs
- Social Issues
faced by young people
- Developmental
Needs and Tasks in Adolescence
- Complementing formal education. (working with young people at risk of exclusion to provide alternative education routes to accreditation).
The aim of the
project is therefore to enable young people to undertake a range of activities
that will improve their health, quality of life, reduce the risk of young
people getting involved in alcohol misuse, crime and antisocial behaviour and to address the
lack of facilities for young people in the locality.

Detached Work takes place at various locations in and around Ripley and Heanor town centres.
On Thursday evenings between 6.30 - 9.30pm in Ripley.
Aimed at young people from Ripley and Heanor aged 11 - 19.
In Partnership with Derbyshire County Council Youth Service we actively engage young people in the area. Each session is loosely based around a theme or particular social issue relevant to the lives of the young people. A variety of activities are then used with the young people to help them explore and express their feelings/opinions about the issue.
Issues that have been addressed include, drugs awareness, alcohol misuse, fair trade, bullying, cultural awareness, and sexual health.
Sometimes the real value of the work for the young person is found in simply having an opportunity to talk about what's happening in their lives and to feel listened to.
