About Valley CIDS

Valley CIDS is a charity based in Swanwick Derbyshire that is committed to building and strengthening community in and around Derbyshire. Its aim is to support children and families through outreach work in schools and the wider community.

Valley CIDS became a Registered Charity on 28th March 2000 (Registered Charity Number 1080043) and has continued to grow since this date expanding our Childrens and Youth Work Activities, and network of Lighthouse Charity Shops to help support this work. As part of the commitment to our vision to continue to grow and serve the wider community from 1st April 2008 we began operating as a Company Limited by Guarantee (Company Registration Number 05558271), and also with a new Registered Charity Number (1123173). We are funded primarily from three sources, income from our Lighthouse Charity Shops, donations from our supporters, and also grant funding for specific projects if and when it becomes available.

The charity operates though a growing network of Lighthouse charity shops, and a coffee shop which support two Blend Youth Projects in Ripley and Heanor, childrens work in local schools, breakfast clubs, and after school clubs. Key staff are employed but the majority of the work is carried out through a growing number of volunteers. The charity provides ample opportunities for volunteers to become involved in children’s work, youth work, or in one of our charity shops, or coffee shop. Training is provided and any time people can give is very much appreciated.
